Job summary

MBA Energy & Industrial seeks a Traveling Superintendent to lead onsite field operations across upstream and midstream oil & gas and process facilities. You will supervise multi-discipline crews, coordinate with project teams, and ensure work aligns with contract documents, codes, and company standards.

The role demands travel across the continental United States, extended onsite assignments, and strict adherence to safety and QA/QC procedures. Lodging and per diem are provided per policy.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of construction field leadership experience as a Superintendent or Foreman on upstream/midstream oil & gas or process industrial projects.
• Demonstrated experience supervising multi-craft scopes such as process/mechanical piping, pipeline, structural, electrical, and instrumentation & controls.
• Proven ability to read and interpret isometrics, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, loop sheets, and construction specifications.
• Working knowledge of codes and standards (ASME B31 series, API, NEC) and QA/QC, testing, turnover processes.
• Familiarity with field safety programs including permit-to-work, LOTO, hot work, and confined-space entry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general scheduling software.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
• Ability to travel extensively and remain onsite for extended durations.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day field operations across multiple disciplines with workforce supervision and coordination of all onsite activities.
• Interpret and 3D models, isometrics, P&IDs, PFDs, single-line diagrams, loop sheets, and construction specifications and submittals.
• Oversee pipe fabrication, installation, welding, NDE, hydrotesting, and turnover activities.
• Supervise pipeline construction activities including ROW, stringing, bending, welding, coating, tie-ins, and facility work.
• Coordinate electrical and instrumentation & automation work including PLC/DCS integration and loop checks.
• Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and recovery plans.
• Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, JSA documentation, and enforce permit-to-work and LOTO requirements.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and applicable industry codes and client site requirements.
• Conduct QA/QC inspections, weld tracking, material traceability, and test-package turnover.
• Manage site logistics, heavy equipment, rigging, and material control to support project delivery.

Job description

The Traveling Superintendent is responsible for onsite leadership, coordination, and execution of upstream and midstream oil & gas and process industrial construction projects across the U.S. This position oversees multi-discipline field operations, including mechanical and process piping, pipeline, electrical, and instrumentation & automation, to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, industry codes, and company standards.

The Superintendent serves as the primary onsite representative for MBA Energy & Industrial, managing craft crews and subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality expectations, and maintaining direct communication with the Project Management team, client representatives, and inspectors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day field operations across multiple disciplines such as process and mechanical piping, pipeline, structural, electrical, and instrumentation & controls (I&C), including workforce supervision, scheduling, and coordination of all onsite activities.
• Interpret and 3D models, isometrics, P&IDs, PFDs, single-line diagrams, loop sheets, and construction specifications and submittals.
• Oversee pipe fabrication and installation and welding operations, and coordinate NDE, hydrotesting, and mechanical completion and turnover activities.
• Supervise pipeline construction activities such as right-of-way, stringing, bending, welding, coating, lowering-in, backfill, tie-ins, and station/facility work as applicable.
• Coordinate electrical and instrumentation & automation work, including cable and conduit installation, terminations, instrument installation and calibration, PLC/DCS integration, and loop checks and commissioning support.
• Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and client representatives to ensure alignment between field execution and project objectives.
• Develop and maintain short-term (3-week) look-ahead schedules and recovery plans as necessary.
• Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documentation; enforce permit-to-work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, and confined-space requirements.
• Enforce compliance with MBA’s safety policies, OSHA standards, client site requirements, and applicable industry codes (e.g., ASME B31.3/B31.4/B31.8, API, NEC).
• Conduct quality inspections and support QA/QC documentation, weld tracking, material traceability, and test-package turnover.
• Direct and oversee craft crews and subcontractor performance, ensuring productivity, quality, and adherence to scope.
• Manage site logistics, heavy equipment, rigging, and material control to support efficient project delivery.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and professional job site at all times.
• Identify potential risks or schedule impacts and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
• Report daily progress and issues to the Project Manager and document field activities accurately.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods during 10-hour workdays.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures, uneven terrain, and active construction and operating-facility environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience across upstream (well pads, gathering systems, compression) and midstream (gas processing plants, compressor and pump stations, terminals, and pipelines) facilities.
• Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and mechanical completion/turnover.
• OSHA 30-hour certification; additional credentials such as TWIC, First Aid/CPR, or client safety-council memberships (e.g., ISN, PEC/SafeLand) a plus.
• Welding/QC or instrumentation background; ability to interpret weld maps and test packages.
• Experience managing remote project sites or multi-state crews.

This position is field-based and requires frequent travel to remote upstream and midstream oil & gas and process facility job sites across the continental United States. Work is performed primarily outdoors and may occur in and around operating facilities, requiring adherence to client site safety and access requirements (including potential H2S environments). Lodging and per diem are provided per company policy.
