Job summary

Limestone County Board of Education is seeking an ITINERANT SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT to support certified teachers in delivering individualized instruction to students with disabilities across classrooms and settings.

Under supervision, you will reinforce learning, manage student behavior, assist with assessments and therapy activities, prepare materials, accompany students to and from classes, and help with lunch, recess, and other routines as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• Two years of higher education and successful Work Keys Test required.
• Prior working with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under direction of a certified teacher, perform instructional tasks.
• Work with students to maintain behavioral plans and reinforce learning.
• Work with small groups to reinforce learning.
• Guide study and corrective instruction.
• Assist activities prescribed by therapists.
• Assist students needing special attention and/or assistance.
• Prepare instructional materials for classroom use.
• Assist with routine clerical duties such as grading papers.
• Assist with feeding, positioning, lifting, or moving students as needed.
• Assist students with wash-up and toilet routines, including cleaning and changing.
• Supervise students during lunch, playground, study hall, field trips, etc.
• Accompany children to and from special education settings and regular classrooms as needed.
