Job summary

The Limestone County Board of Education is seeking an ITINERANT SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT to assist the classroom teacher in delivering individualized supports for students with disabilities. Responsibilities include supporting behavioral plans, reinforcing learning in small groups, and preparing instructional materials.

Under supervision of licensed teachers, you will help with activities prescribed by therapists and assist with routine classroom tasks, supervision during meals,

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• Two years of higher education and successful passage of the Work Keys Test required.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a certified teacher, performs tasks related to instruction.
• Works with identified student(s) to maintain behavioral control and implement plans.
• Works with small groups to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher.
• Guides study and corrective instruction directed by the teacher.
• Assists teacher in implementing activities prescribed by the speech/occupational/physical therapist.
• Assists students who need special attention and/or assistance.
• Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use.
• Assists routine classroom clerical duties such as grading papers.
• Assists teacher in feeding, positioning, lifting, or moving students, if needed.
• Assists students with wash-up and toilet routines, including cleaning and changing, if needed.
• Assists students and/or teachers with the use of assistive/adaptive devices, if needed.
• Accompanies children to and from special education setting and to regular classroom setting as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
