Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for our Midwest Travel crew. You will support all phases of telecom construction, traveling nationwide and prioritizing safety on every task.

Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery, reading blueprints, and collaborating with the crew to ensure quality and efficiency. You must have 2+ years of heavy equipment experience, be comfortable around utilities, hold a valid driver's license, and be willing to obtain a CDL and

Qualifications

• 2+ years of construction-site heavy equipment experience, including dozer/backhoe
• Experience around underground/overhead utilities and safe digging practices
• Ability to read blueprints and construction plans
• Valid driver's license; able to obtain DOT medical card
• Current CDL or able to obtain one within 90 days
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the year and work overtime
• Team player with a hands-on approach

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety by following company/OSHA requirements and PPE
• Operate heavy equipment for aerial/underground fiber construction across the Midwest travel crew
• Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance
• Read utility locates and construction plans to protect crew and utilities
• Assist with general construction, material handling, and site prep as needed
• Troubleshoot equipment and communicate safety concerns promptly
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and support crew productivity
• Perform other duties as assigned
