Role Summary
The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This position will be responsible for managing the team, planning all construction sequencing, and meeting project goals. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core
SUPERINTENDENT FAMILY - CORE
- Leads all aspects of the company's safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
- Provides management of subcontractors and organization of the overall job and workflow.
- Manages and oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEOC for small projects or major portions of larger projects.
- Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Coordinates and manages the care, custody, and control of the project site.
- Leads various meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
- Participates in progress and project OAC meetings.
- Creates, manages, and updates the project's schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using the project management system.
- Communicates key project information to owners, design team, authorities, subcontractors, and other departments.
- Follows project filing and documentation system, updates drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
- Approves and records unit cost information, completes reports, logs, and tracking documents.
- Evaluates progress on self-perform work and adjusts as needed.
- Manages material and equipment needs.
- Supports procurement and approval processes.
- Assists in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform operations.
- Manages timecard approval process for accurate reporting.
- Ensures quality compliance through specifications, standards, QA/QC, and outside resources.
- Supports project closeouts and coordinates activities with stakeholders.
- Participates in project pursuit process and methodology.
- Works with field leadership on staffing and project changes.
- Participates in negotiations, reviews, and project meetings.
- Understands and applies contract terms.
- Identifies and recruits top talent.
- Promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion, ensuring policies are implemented positively.

GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT
- Manages large, complex projects from planning to completion.
- Oversees multiple projects and teams.
- Leads strategic initiatives and develops training content.
- Delivers leadership messages effectively internally and externally.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and timely.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
- Understanding of construction management fundamentals and project processes.
- Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate.
- Knowledge of trades, self-perform work, and labor productivity.
- Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and build client relationships.
- Understanding of project documentation, layout, crane flagging, rigging, and cost management.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent relevant experience considered.
Experience
- 12+ years of construction experience.
- 10+ years of field supervision experience.
- Experience leading Lean principles (preferred).
Working Environment
- Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.
