Job summary

SummitIG, LLC is seeking a Field Technician to perform OTDR testing, fiber cleaning, and repair in data centers, with responsibility for managing trouble tickets and supporting network outages. This role requires travel to assigned markets and after-hours availability.

The position emphasizes hands-on fiber work, safe operation of company vehicles, and collaboration with network and data center teams. A high school diploma and a valid driver’s license are required, along with proficiency in MS

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel throughout assigned market in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to read road maps and basic circuit design drawings.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and mobile technology applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform OTDR testing on fiber optic cable within the data center environment and interpret test results.
• Check optical power levels using a power meter test set.
• Generate test result reports with OTDR, fiber microscopes, or power meters.
• Connect fiber optic jumpers between patch panel locations according to basic circuit design drawings.
• Routinely use tools to clean fiber jumpers and patch panel ports and verify cleanliness with microscopes.
• Respond to dispatch tickets from the NOC.
• Document trouble tickets accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with customer and data center technicians to troubleshoot physical layer issues.
• Operate company vehicles, tools, and equipment safely.
• Support emergency restoration and outage response activities as needed.
• Work outside of normal business hours when needed.
