Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Fiber Technician / Fiber Splicer to support fiber optic infrastructure projects across client environments. This role handles installation, splicing, testing and maintenance of fiber networks in fast-paced field settings.

You will interpret splice diagrams, perform tests with OTDRs and light meters, mentor junior technicians, and collaborate with internal teams and vendors to ensure successful project delivery. Travel up to 75% is required.

Qualifications

• 2-3+ years of experience in fiber optic, telecom, network infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with fiber optic cable installation, routing, termination, and fusion splicing.
• Fusion splicing experience.
• Experience performing fiber testing and troubleshooting with OTDRs, light source/power meters, VFLs, and fiber certification equipment.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic network standards, cable management, pathway installation, and industry best practices.
• Ability to read and interpret splice diagrams, fiber schematics, test results, and technical documentation.

Job description

• Per diem is $80/day in the USA, $120/day if traveling to Canada
• 6-month contract (potential for full time conversion or extension)
• Pay rate: $35-45/hr (USD)

This individual will be responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic networks while operating with moderate independence. The role will support project delivery, mentor junior technicians, and partner with internal teams and vendors to ensure successful execution. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with fiber optic cabling, fusion splicing, fiber testing, and network infrastructure deployments in fast-paced field environments.

• This role requires up to 75% travel to support projects across various customer sites

Required skills and experience

• 2-3+ years of experience in fiber optic, telecom, network infrastructure,
• Hands-on experience with fiber optic cable installation, routing, termination, and fusion splicing
• Fusion splicing experience
• Experience performing fiber testing and troubleshooting using tools such as OTDRs, light source/power meters, VFLs, and fiber certification equipment

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Associate's degree or equivalent technical/military experience
• Experience with single-mode and multimode fiber, MPO/MTP connectivity, and fiber distribution systems
• Familiarity with both inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) fiber environments
• Experience with structured cabling installations, including copper and fiber infrastructure
• OSHA, CFOT, BICSI, FOA, NFPA 70E, or other relevant safety/industry certifications
