Job summary

Equiliem is seeking a Traveling Fiber Optic Technician I to install, splice, terminate and test single mode fiber in inside and outside plant environments on a data center project in Abilene, TX. The role requires hands-on fiber prep, fusion splicing, troubleshooting and thorough documentation, with travel and weekend work as needed.

The position offers a Monday–Friday schedule (five 10‑hour shifts) starting at 6:00 a.m., with a daily per diem and housing accommodations provided by the project.

Qualifications

• Experience installing, preparing, fusion splicing, terminating, and testing single mode fiber optic cable.
• Experience in inside plant and outside plant environments.
• Experience with loose tube and tight buffered fiber in building entrances and splice locations.
• Proficiency with LC/SC/ST/FC and MPO/MTP connectors.
• Operate OTDR testing equipment, interpret results, troubleshoot faults, analyze splice loss.
• Knowledge of fiber loss budget calculations and applicable TIA/EIA standards.
• Install fan-out kits, integrate fiber distribution panels, and maintain testing/certification records.
• Willingness to travel and work weekend shifts as needed.

Traveling Fiber Optic Technician I

Location: Abilene, TX

Job Summary

The Traveling Fiber Optic Technician I installs, splices, terminates, and tests single mode fiber optic cabling in inside plant and outside plant environments. This role supports a large data center construction project and requires hands‑on experience with fiber preparation, fusion splicing, troubleshooting, and documentation. Travel and the ability to work the required project schedule are essential.

Job Requirements

• Proficiency with LC, SC, ST, FC, and MPO/MTP fiber connectors.
• Ability to operate OTDR testing equipment, interpret results, troubleshoot faults, and analyze splice loss.
• Knowledge of fiber loss budget calculations and applicable TIA/EIA standards.
• Ability to install fan‑out kits, integrate fiber distribution panels, and maintain accurate testing and certification records.
• Availability to travel and work scheduled shifts, including weekends as needed.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)

• Contract to hire opportunity with a 640 hour conversion period.
• Two openings available.
• Daily per diem of $75.
• Shared housing provided, with a designated team vehicle and coordinated transportation.
• Onsite shuttle buses serve the project campus.
• Follow designated site access routes and avoid unpaved county roads.
