Job summary

Ledcor Group in the United States is seeking experienced excavator operators to support telecom construction across South Dakota and nearby states. Projects rotate roughly every four weeks, requiring adaptability to rural and urban sites and to work around existing utilities.

The role involves safely operating mini excavators and skid steers, digging around underground utilities, assisting with conduit and fiber installation, and performing daily equipment checks.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating mini excavators and skid steers in utilities, roadbuilding, or related industries.
• Experience with fiber optic or underground utility installation is an asset.
• Ability to read construction drawings, interpret utility locates, and assess trench routes.
• Knowledge of backfilling, soil conditions, lift thickness, moisture levels, and compaction requirements.
• Ability to recognize unsuitable soil, unexpected utilities, and unsafe site conditions.
• Strong understanding of safe digging practices and job site safety standards.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Operate mini excavator and skid steers safely for civil construction and earthwork activities.
• Excavate around underground utilities following locate procedures.
• Place soil and aggregate in lifts for proper compaction.
• Assess soil types, moisture, and compaction needs.
• Assist with conduit placement and cable installation to keep production moving.
• Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on equipment.
• Assist with hand digging and conduit installation.
• Communicate with crew and supervisors to meet daily project goals.
