Job summary

Jimmy Jazz is seeking a Traveling Energy Auditor to support Community Action Agencies across Illinois. The role requires extensive travel up to 75% of time, with on-site work in Champaign, IL when not in the field.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years’ experience in construction, building inspection, cost estimation, housing rehabilitation, etc. or a combination of training and experience.
• Must obtain BPI Building Science Principles Certificate within the first month of employment.
• Must obtain Illinois Energy Auditor Training Program Certification within the first 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (up to 75%) to Community Action Agencies across Illinois to support building performance initiatives.
• Provide services to agencies lacking staff in building performance roles and recommend training as needed.
• Time in the Training Center in Champaign, IL when not in the field.

Description

The Traveling Energy Auditor will travel extensively (up to 75% time each month) to Community Action Agencies across the state of Illinois, providing services to agencies which lack staff in building performance roles, operating specialized tools and equipment for the purposes of improved building performance, energy efficiency, and client health and safety, and recommending appropriate training for Community Action Agency staff when deficiencies are found. Time not spent in the field will be spent at the Training Center located in Champaign, IL.

Requirements

• At least 2 years’ experience in construction, building inspection, cost estimation, housing rehabilitation, etc. or a combination of training and experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Have good working knowledge of construction methods and building materials.
• Must obtain the BPI Building Science Principles Certificate within the first month of employment.
• Must obtain the Illinois Energy Auditor Training Program Certification within the first 6 months of employment.
• Must have a current and valid Illinois driver’s license.
• Basic knowledge of home performance
• Basic knowledge of building science

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Characteristics and Abilities:

• Teaching experience
• Already holds BPI certifications such as EA and QCI
• Fluency in Spanish
• Strong interest in sustainability, energy-efficiency, education, or health sciences
• Experience with energy modeling software

Summary

Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., M-F (Flexibility is necessary to support the goals of the ICRT Team.)
