Role Overview

The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examination and assist other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dental assistants must work effectively with co-workers including Specialty dental assistants, patients, and the front office by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner.

A successful dental assistant will execute active listening, keep commitments, keep others informed of work progress, and address problems constructively to identify practical business solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric dentistry, they will primarily support clinicians within that specialty and may require additional training.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Participate actively in PPE, focusing on patient-centered care.
  3. Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to team members as appropriate.
  4. Communicate with the front and back office teams to ensure smooth scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment according to infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist to enable efficient, quality care.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures as directed by the clinician.
  9. Prepare tray setups and maintain supply levels in operatory rooms.
  10. Keep patients' mouths dry and clear using suction or other devices.
  11. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician’s notes in the digital chart.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history.
  14. Ensure equipment is maintained per manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work with Lead Dental Assistant to ensure adequate supplies.
  16. Learn and operate technology, providing explanations/demonstrations as needed.
  17. Participate in meetings and team huddles.
  18. Model company culture, values, and operational standards.
  19. Support the implementation of the PPE process to gain Patients for Life.
  20. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, addressing others respectfully.
  21. Ensure compliance with all policies and regulations.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED; relevant training courses as mandated by state.
  2. Certificates/licenses as required by state.
  3. For Specialty Assistants: valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation; background checks required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.

  • Effective communication with patients, staff, vendors.
  • Sound judgment, decision-making under pressure.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software.
  • Results-oriented, energetic, and self-motivated.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation: $21.00-$29.00/hourly
