Job summary

TRAK Group is seeking a Field Service Controls Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, and service automated machinery at customer sites across the U.S. and Canada.

The role demands hands-on electrical expertise, PLC diagnostics, and strong customer communication while traveling 65-75% of the time. The ideal candidate will have experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, HMI systems, and the ability to perform minor PLC program edits.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or related field; or 2-3 years automation experience.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting experience; experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms; ability to edit PLC programs (minor edits)
• Knowledge of HMI systems; ability to troubleshoot electrical control systems; welding or soldering a plus
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills; strong written and verbal communication; ability to interact with customers
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and start up automated machinery at customer facilities.
• Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot, repair, and service automated equipment.
• Perform electrical diagnostics and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime.
• Support machine commissioning and ensure systems meet performance specifications.
• Provide remote technical support via phone and online troubleshooting tools.
• Train customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Prepare detailed field service reports documenting repairs, findings, and recommendations.
• Support junior technicians through technical guidance and mentoring.
