Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. (ESS) is seeking a Traveling Bridge Ironworker to support our bridge construction team on a bolt-up project. You will install and tie reinforcing steel, erect structural steel, assist with formwork, perform rigging, and support bridge construction operations.

This role requires travel for 12+ months out of state. Ideal candidates have 3+ years as an Ironworker on bridge or heavy civil projects, with knowledge of rebar placement, rigging, and reading plans.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as an Ironworker, Rodbuster, Structural Steel Erector, or Bridge Ironworker.
  • Experience on bridge, transportation, or heavy civil construction projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of reinforcing steel placement, structural steel erection, and rigging practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, place, and tie reinforcing steel (rebar) for bridge decks, abutments, piers, retaining walls, and other structural elements.
  • Assist with the erection and installation of structural steel components, including girders, beams, diaphragms, and bridge hardware.
  • Read and interpret plans, drawings, and layout information to ensure accurate installation.
  • Perform rigging and signaling activities during crane operations and steel placement.
  • Assist with forming systems, falsework, and concrete placement operations as needed.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and other construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company, client, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents, Operators, and other craft personnel to maintain project schedules and productivity goals.
  • Inspect materials and completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assist with welding, bolting, and securing structural steel components when qualified.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.
