Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. is seeking a Traveling Bridge Ironworker for our bridge construction team on a bolt-up project. The role involves installing reinforcing steel, erecting structural components, rigging, and assisting with formwork and concrete operations.

Travel will be out of state for 12+ months. Qualified candidates have 3+ years of ironworking or related experience, familiarity with heavy civil projects, and the ability to work at heights in varying conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Ironworker, Rodbuster, Structural Steel Erector, or Bridge Ironworker.
  • Experience on bridge, transportation, or heavy civil construction projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of reinforcing steel placement, structural steel erection, and rigging practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Preferred Experience: Bridge deck construction, Rebar installation and rod busting, Structural steel erection, Welding and cutting, Rigging and signaling, Pile driving operations, DOT and highway bridge projects, Operating aerial lifts, telehandlers, and other support equipment, NCCCO Rigging or Signal Person certification, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, place, and tie reinforcing steel (rebar) for bridge decks, abutments, piers, retaining walls, and other structural elements.
  • Assist with the erection and installation of structural steel components, including girders, beams, diaphragms, and bridge hardware.
  • Read and interpret plans, drawings, and layout information to ensure accurate installation.
  • Perform rigging and signaling activities during crane operations and steel placement.
  • Assist with forming systems, falsework, and concrete placement operations as needed.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, cutting equipment, and other construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company, client, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents, Operators, and other craft personnel to maintain project schedules and productivity goals.
  • Inspect materials and completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assist with welding, bolting, and securing structural steel components when qualified.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are seeking a Traveling Bridge Ironworker to join our bridge construction team on a bolt-up project. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing and tying reinforcing steel, erecting structural steel, assisting with formwork systems, performing rigging activities, and supporting bridge construction operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring bridge structures are built safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working on heavy civil, highway, and bridge projects and be comfortable working at heights, around cranes, and in challenging construction environments. This project is out of state and will require travel for 12+ months.
