Description
Reporting to the Director, Construction Management, the Assistant Project Manager assists in the planning, direction, and coordination of activities for designated projects to ensure that goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. The Assistant Project Manager must be willing to relocate based on project location(s) as project schedules require.
Responsibilities
- Manage the design, engineering, and construction of solar energy projects, including procurement, engineering oversight, budgeting, change management, field engineering, construction management, document control, scheduling, field reports, and project turnover to operations.
- Develop, maintain, and execute the work plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and resource allocation.
- Support management and updates of the project budget, review and report forecasted expenditures, and control costs within the budget.
- Support external bidding processes, including preparation of bid packages, proposal evaluation, contract negotiations, and recommendations.
- Provide or coordinate engineering support for development and permitting activities. Oversee execution and compliance with construction contracts.
- Organize and lead project meetings to communicate progress and assign tasks.
- Assist project developers with site development, power-off take arrangements, financing, and RFP processes.
- Coordinate with Development and Legal departments for contract development, negotiation, and execution.
- Assist in transitioning projects to Operations upon completion.
- Supervise work in accordance with organizational policies and laws.
- Oversee quality control during project execution, ensuring compliance with contractual and internal standards.
- Work alongside Construction Managers on-site to optimize project execution.
- Coordinate with external agencies and stakeholders such as regulatory bodies, landowners, utilities, and financiers.
- Manage all construction and compliance aspects of interconnection and power purchase agreements.
- Manage project start-up, energization, and conditions for commercial operation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience as a lead Assistant Project Manager or equivalent in renewable power projects.
- Knowledge of contracting, project management, engineering, construction, and regulatory issues.
- Willingness to travel and work on remote projects.
- Ability to interpret financial reports, manage budgets, and use scheduling software.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with risk management and Microsoft Office.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and physically capable of performing job functions.
- Valid driver’s license and on-call availability.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years project management experience, especially in solar projects.
- BS in Engineering or Construction Management; PE/PMP preferred.
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems and wind energy.
- Knowledge of electrical/high voltage systems and GIS tools.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and project support systems.
- Strong technical writing skills.
