Qualifications

Role Responsibilities

Surgical techs are vital members of a hospital's healthcare team, acting as a surgeon's right hand. Responsibilities include preparing surgical equipment, assisting during procedures, and post-operative support. Additional duties may involve coordinating with the healthcare team, maintaining detailed reports, and providing compassionate care to patients and families.

Requirements for Application

Applicants must have an active certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCSA), or active first assistant certification. Evidence of at least one year of experience as a First Assistant surgical tech or first assistant within the past three years is required. Non-certified candidates need at least 10 years of surgical tech experience, subject to facility acceptance. Graduation from an accredited program and scoring 80% or higher on Nomad competency exams are also necessary.
