Surgical techs are an integral part of a hospital's healthcare team, acting as a surgeon's right hand. They prepare surgical equipment and assist surgeons before, during, and after procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating with the multidisciplinary team, maintaining accurate reports, and providing non-discriminatory care to all patients, families, and staff.
Applicants must have an active certification from NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA, with at least one year of experience as a First Assistant surgical tech or first assistant, including within the last three years. Non-certified applicants must have at least 10 years of surgical tech experience, subject to facility acceptance. Graduation from an accredited school and scoring 80% or higher on Nomad competency exams are also required.
