• Position patients and assist with sterile draping; transport instruments to Central Sterile Processing.
• Ensure operating suite disinfection and readiness for next case.
• Collaborate with nurses and staff for post-case cleaning duties.

Job description

American Traveler seeks a Surgical Technologist/First Assist (CST/CSFA) for a cardiothoracic surgical services position requiring NBSTSA CSFA certification.

Requirements

• Technical diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or comparable military training
• Completion of a Surgical First Assistant Program
• BLS certification required
• NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) credential required
• License required if applicable
• No prior experience required, though 6-12 months preferred

Responsibilities

• Hospital surgical services department with 15 OR suites, including hybrid and cardiothoracic rooms
• Supports CFA Hearts cardiothoracic surgical procedures
• Day shift, Monday through Friday, 0600-1430
• Call requirements every other day and every other weekend
• 26-week contract assignment
• Functions as the surgeon's chief assistant in the operating room, supervised by the department director and nurse manager
• Assists with case setup, sterile field maintenance, and instrument passing
• Performs first assist duties in cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting after completing an approved course
• May clamp, cauterize, tie, apply ligating clamps and hemostatic clips, and place hemostatic agents on vessels and tissue
• May apply sutures on wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin
• Assists circulating RN with patient positioning and sterile draping as needed
• Responsible for point-of-use cleaning and proper transport of instruments to Central Sterile Processing
• Ensures surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure
• Works collaboratively with circulating nurses and support staff for post-case cleaning duties
