Job summary

Newsandtribune seeks an experienced Surgical Assistant with robotic surgery expertise for a Level IV Trauma Center’s surgery department. The role supports OR teams across Orthopedics, General, OB, Urology, and more, with 40 hours weekly, 8-hour days, and on-call requirements.

Responsibilities include assisting with C-sections, training staff, and adapting to multiple sites. Requirements include active licensure if applicable, BLS/CSA certification, 12+ months in the specialty, DaVinci XI

Qualifications

• Active license required, if applicable
• BLS and CSA (NBSTSA) certification required
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area, with recent experience within the last year
• Robotic experience required, including experience with the Davinci XI system
• Experience with General surgeries and OB required
• Experience assisting with training core staff on robotic equipment preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Level IV Trauma Center with Level II NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
• 74-bed hospital with a 6-bed surgery unit
• 8-hour day shift schedule, approximately 8AM to 4:30PM with flex time earlier or later based on case needs
• 40 standard hours per week
• Patient population includes Ortho, General, OBGYN, Urology, Vascular, ENT, Plastics, Robotic, and Podiatry cases
• Tech to patient ratio of 1:1
• Will assist with C-Sections in OB and take call
• May float to other sites including Pleasant Prairie ASC, Mount Pleasant, and Racine ASC
• On-call requirement every 5th weekday and every 5th weekend
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris, and Pyxis systems
• Hospital-provided scrubs and free parking
• Functions as Surgical First or Second Assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures
• May perform responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist if required
• Assists with a variety of surgical specialties including Ortho Total Joints, Scopes, OB Assist, Davinci XI Robotics, Ortho Spine, and General Surgery
• Charge nurse manages patient assignments and coverage support on the unit
• MD on call 24/7 for support
• At least 1 orientation shift provided to learn unit flow
• Holiday coverage expectations vary based on need and specialty
• Up to 7 days of requested time off can be approved
• First-time travelers not accepted for this position
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius rules
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
