Job summary

Aerotek is seeking experienced Shipfitters for contract work in Mobile, AL, with opportunities on major shipbuilding and repair projects. Pay ranges from $45.00 to $55.00 per hour, plus per diem.

You will read blueprints, lay out and assemble steel components, and collaborate with welders and fabricators to meet tight tolerances. This onsite role requires at least 4 years of shipyard experience, strong safety practices, and the ability to interpret drawings and perform tack welding when needed.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of shipfitter experience in a shipyard environment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and job specification.
• Experience with structural fit-up, alignment, and assembly.
• Familiarity with shipbuilding fabrication tools and equipment.
• Ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standards.
• Previous experience with tack welding and weld preparation.
• Strong understanding of shipyard safety practices.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and correct fabrication issues.

Position is located in Charleston South Carolina and Newport News, Virginia

What You'll Be Doing

As a Shipfitter, you'll play a critical role in the fabrication and assembly of structural components used in ship construction and repair. You'll work from blueprints and technical drawings to ensure precise fit-up, alignment, and assembly before welding operations begin.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and job specification
• Lay out, position, fit, and assemble steel components and ship structures

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Mobile, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
