Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a PCU/Stepdown assignment in Pennsylvania. Active PA or compact RN license required, along with a minimum of 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience. Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred, with prior charge nurse experience a plus.

Position involves work in a hospital PCU/Stepdown unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio. Cerner charting experience is preferred; shifts include 3x12s (19:00–07:00) or 7:30–19:30, with weekend coverage and block

Qualifications

• Active PA license or compact RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• IV starts and maintenance skills preferred
• Wound care and IV insulin protocols experience preferred
• Must complete lab work within 72 hours of signing contract

Responsibilities

• Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown/IMC/DOU) of a hospital setting
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Cerner charting system experience preferred
• Night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:00) or Day shift (3x12 hours, 7:30-19:30) available
• Night shift scheduling is block-style, working all three shifts within the same week
• Required to work every other weekend
• Provide telemetry monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and rapid response/code team activation
• Maintain isolation precautions and PPE protocols
• PA fingerprinting and ChildLine clearance within 48 hours of signing contract
• First-time travelers welcome; travel experience not required
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Disclose any prior employment with Penn Highlands Healthcare and observe required waiting period

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PCU/Stepdown position requiring PA or compact RN license and 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience.

Requirements

• Active PA or compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills in starting and maintaining IVs preferred
• Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care preferred
• Experience with plastics-related care (breast reconstruction, mastectomy, skin grafts, surgical drains) preferred
• Experience caring for CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and TBI patients preferred
• Experience with feeding tube management preferred
• Experience managing vasoactive drips, PCA, and procedural sedation preferred
• Experience with wound care/wound vac preferred
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration preferred
• Experience with ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacement preferred
• Experience with post cardiac angiogram/cath care and TR Band management preferred
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care preferred
• One supervisory reference from within the past year required for consideration
• Must complete lab work within 72 hours of signing contract

• Previous travel experience is not required
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
• Any previous permanent or per diem employment with Penn Highlands Healthcare must be disclosed, and must have been away for at least 18 months before returning as a traveler
