Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking a Registered Nurse for a busy 25-bed PCU in Iowa on a night shift. The role emphasizes neuro, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic trauma care with Epic EMR usage and strict telemetry monitoring.

Candidates should have an active IA or compact RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 24 months of progressive care experience. Travel-ready nurses with licensure, driving eligibility, and willingness to float across multiple campuses are encouraged to apply.

• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 24 months HO Medical Surgical/IMCU/Stepdown/PCU experience
• Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
• Ortho/orthopedic care experience required
• Trauma care experience preferred, Level I preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• EKG/telemetry experience required
• Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drips experience required
• De-escalation certification preferred
• Must have completed at least one travel assignment in last 12 months
• Driver's license required
• Professional reference from a supervisor preferred

Responsibilities

• Surg/Neuro/Ortho unit within a 25-bed PCU setting
• Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6
• Uses Epic EMR
• Night shift, 4x12s, 48 hrs/week (36 hrs/week available on request)
• Weekend rotation every other or every third weekend depending on staffing/census
• No on-call requirements
• Float across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Meth West campuses
• Telemetry, chest tubes, airvo, and left equipment
• Manage Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na drips (no titration)
• Provide progressive care nursing support for neuro, neurosurgery, and orthopedic trauma patients
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday rotation required, work 1-2 of 3 winter holidays unless unit closed
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Prior UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN) ineligible to work travel assignments in another market within 12 months of separation
• First-time travelers will not be considered

Requirements

• Active IA or compact/multistate RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC) certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred, can be obtained during onboarding
• Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
• Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
• Ortho/orthopedic care experience required
• Trauma care experience highly preferred, Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• EKG/strip reading, measuring, and telemetry experience required
• Experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium/Na drips required
• De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
• Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the previous 12 months
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Professional reference from a supervisor within the past 24 months preferred
