American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych with a Maine or compact RN license and at least one year of Behavioral Health experience for a night‑shift role requiring flexibility to float between pediatric and adult units.

Details
  • Work in a free‑standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility with a contracted ER five minutes away
  • Pediatric Psychiatric Unit caring for patients ages 5‑18 with occasional floating to the Adult unit (ages 18+)
  • Common diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
  • Unit also treats involuntary and voluntary admissions, with occasional medically cleared substance use or detox patients on CIWA protocol
  • RN patient ratios are 1:5‑6 during the day and 1:13 at night with resource support
  • Shift is 7P‑7A, 12‑hour nights, totaling 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other Saturday/Sunday
  • No on‑call requirements, though overtime is available
  • Uses Cerner for charting and Pyxis for medication dispensing
  • Floating required between all six units within the facility, including Peds and Adults

Additional Information
  • Provide psychiatric and medical care alongside specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardening
  • Support team includes DON/CNO, Nurse Manager, House Administrator, Charge Nurse, Psych Techs, Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist, and on‑site security
  • Opportunity to serve as Charge Nurse or Code Leader during patient escalations, though not required
  • Orientation includes one week of day shifts followed by a second week on the contracted shift
  • Scenario‑based de‑escalation training offered every other week with an on‑site MOAB Educator
  • Modified self‑scheduling process with manager oversight to ensure shift coverage
  • Expected to work holidays as part of the rotation
  • Scrubs must be a solid, professional color
  • Free on‑site parking available
  • Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months
  • First‑time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must not have prior permanent employment history with any Northern Light Health hospital
  • Permanent residence must be located 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility for consideration
