Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) assignment in Iowa. The role requires Level II trauma center experience and open-heart scrub proficiency, with travel between Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist campuses.

The position involves 4x10-hour days, a 1:1 patient ratio, and complex cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases, using DaVinci robotics and advanced imaging. Eligible RNs must have recent OR experience and an IA license.

Qualifications

• Active IA RN license or Compact/Multistate license required.
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required.
• Minimum 24 months of current/recent operating room experience required.
• Required CVOR experience with strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases.
• General circulating/operating room experience required, with approximately 80% cardiac case experience and 20% general case experience.
• Open heart scrubbing experience required.
• EPIC EMR experience within the previous 3 years required.
• Level II trauma center experience required; Level I trauma experience highly preferred.
• Must have completed a travel assignment within the previous 15 months.

Responsibilities

• Level I trauma center operating room setting with 16 OR suites, typically running 12-14 rooms.
• 1:1 patient ratio with an average caseload of 35-50 cases per day and turnover expectations under 20 minutes.
• Service lines include cardiac/PV, neuro, ortho (primarily trauma), robotics, gyn, uro, general, pediatrics, and transplants, with small ENT and plastics volume.
• Uses 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth neuro navigation technology, and Synthes/Stryker ortho trauma equipment.
• Both scrub and circulating duties required.
• Day shift, 4x10s with rotating day off, 6:30 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, 40 hrs/week.
• Call requirements include up to 2 overnight shifts per week and 1 weekend per month (Friday 5pm through Monday 6:30am).
• Required to float across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist campuses.
• Scrubs provided.
• CVOR orientation includes approximately 2-3 weeks in general OR rooms, followed by 2 weeks in vascular circulating/scrubbing, then transition into cardiac circulating and scrubbing.
• New RNs to the unit take general call for the first 6 weeks before progressing to cardiac call.
• Department is staffed 24 hours per day with charge nurse oversight.
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted.
• Past UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are restricted from working travel assignments in another market.
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position.
