Job summary

American Traveler Staffing Professionals is seeking an experienced RN for Neuro ICU in Madison, WI. This position requires ICU experience and a telemetry exam, with night shifts (3x12h) and 36 hours per week.

The assignment lasts 17 weeks with a start around Sep 28, 2026. 1 opening, located at University Hospital, a Magnet-designated top Wisconsin hospital.

Qualifications

• Active WI RN license or Compact RN license.
• BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications.
• Minimum 2 years of acute care ICU experience.
• Neurosurgery experience preferred.
• Must pass telemetry exam.
• IV therapy, arterial/central line care, and PICC line management.
• Ventilator management and ABG interpretation.
• Neuro ICU care including EVD, ICP monitoring, post-craniotomy management.
• Titration of cardiac/vasoactive drips and continuous IV sedation.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Neuro ICU of a teaching hospital environment.
• Care for a mixed ICU and IMC patient population.
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 1900-0730.
• Every other weekend required, with possible weekends off.
• Some holiday coverage.
• Floating as needed.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring ICU experience and a passing telemetry exam score.

Details

• Work in the Neuro ICU of a teaching hospital environment

• Every other weekend required, with contingent weekends if a scheduled weekend is requested off
• Some holiday coverage required
• Floating required as needed
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS (AHA only)
• Minimum 2 years of acute care ICU experience within the last 3 years required in the specialty being submitted to
• Neurosurgery experience preferred
• Must pass a telemetry exam with strict passing criteria prior to starting the assignment
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management
• Skilled in ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and airway suctioning
• Skilled in neurological care including EVD, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery management
• Skilled in titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation, and emergency medications
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Skilled in IV insulin protocols

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to Neuro ICU patients including stroke, traumatic brain injury, and post-neurosurgery cases
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility as local candidates are not accepted
• Telemetry exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms and no more than one incorrect answer on 3rd degree heart block questions, with an 80% or higher passing score
• Up to two attempts allowed for the telemetry exam; a failed second attempt requires completion of a cardiac interpretation review course before a third attempt is granted
• Located at University Hospital, a Magnet-designated facility ranked as Wisconsin's top hospital
• Parking permit required for onsite parking, with alternative transportation options available
