Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in a high-acuity NICU. Candidates must have 2+ years of NICU experience and current BLS/NRP certifications.

The role requires an active RN license in MO/KS or a compact license, travel RN experience, and ability to interpret dysrhythmia, manage ventilation, and perform neonatal care duties. Housing options and competitive pay offered.

  • BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years NICU experience with no >90 day gaps in past year.
  • Patient ratio experience of 1:1-3.
  • Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation and invasive monitoring.
  • Experience with neonatal sepsis, phototherapy, and hyperbilirubinemia management.
  • Feeding management including bottle, breast, gavage; NG/NJ tube placement.
  • Experience with high-flow nasal cannula, CPAP, and oxygen delivery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Level III NICU with 18 rooms and 20 beds; night shift 18:45-07:15.
  • Weekend: 4 weekends per 6-week schedule plus 2 Sunday nights.
  • On-call: two 12-hour shifts per 6-week schedule.
  • Floating to well baby nursery and attend deliveries on L&D; inter-departmental float.
  • Care for neonates across gestational ages; perform high-risk deliveries and ventilator management.
  • UAC/UVC care, arterial/central line care; EPIC charting.
  • Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including APGAR scoring, developmental care, and family teaching.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of recent NICU experience and BLS/NRP certifications.

Requirements
  • Active RN license (Kansas and Missouri or compact) required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience required, with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
  • Patient ratio experience of 1:1-3
  • Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and blood glucose monitoring
  • Experience with neonatal sepsis management, phototherapy, and hyperbilirubinemia treatment
  • Skilled in feeding management including bottle, breast, and gavage feeding, and NG/NJ tube placement
  • Experience with high-flow nasal cannula, bubble CPAP, and various oxygen delivery systems
  • Skilled in neonatal dosage calculations, administration of antibiotics/antivirals, anti-seizure medications, and steroids
  • Experience assisting with lumbar punctures and managing neonatal abstinence syndrome
  • Previous travel RN experience required
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
Responsibilities
  • Level III NICU with 18 rooms and 20 beds, average daily census of 6.9
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
  • Weekend requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday and/or Saturday night) plus 2 Sunday nights per 6-week schedule
  • On-call requirement of two 12-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required to well baby nursery and to attend deliveries on L&D, with additional floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Cares for neonates across all gestational ages, including <24-28 weeks, 29-34 weeks, and >34 weeks
  • Performs high-risk delivery attendance, ventilator management, UAC/UVC care, arterial line management, and central line care
  • Uses EPIC charting system
  • Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including APGAR scoring, developmental care, and patient/family teaching
  • Navy blue scrubs provided for charge nurses and transition/baby catcher nurse roles only
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, finalized at time of submission with no changes allowed afterward
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates within this radius will not be considered
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
  • Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service with 18-month tenure requirement; permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
