Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active NE or compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong communication and accurate documentation skills required
• Experience titrating drips required
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
• Cannot be currently or recently employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity

Responsibilities

• 21-bed Med/Surg Oncology unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Patients are primarily general medical/surgical with a specialty in post-op cancer interventions such as prostatectomy and mastectomy
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• RNs titrate drips including heparin, lidocaine, and TPN
• Central telemetry monitoring on the unit with RNs expected to notice changes on strips
• Nurse aides available intermittently, generally 1:15 when sitter needs arise
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support available
• 3 shifts per week, 12-hour nights (0630-1900)
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd weekend, equating to 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule
• Rotating holiday coverage required
• No call or standby requirements
• Rare floating, limited to other medical/surgical units if needed
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Provide patient-centered care to a medical/surgical oncology population with emphasis on post-surgical cancer recovery
• Chemotherapy administration is not required for travelers due to internal competency requirements
• Oncology certification is a plus but not required
• Complete a pass/fail skills exam during orientation, requiring a 90% score to continue the assignment
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; violation results in contract termination
• Navy scrubs required per dress code
• Unit-specific orientation provided
• First-time travelers may be considered
