Job description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Transfer Center position requiring CA RN licensure and 2+ years of ICU, ED, or transfer center experience with strong computer and multitasking skills.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required

• Minimum 2 years of ICU, ED, or transfer center experience required
• Acute care experience required
• Strong critical care assessment skills and clinical judgement required
• Ability to follow clinical algorithms
• Strong computer skills required, with experience in Cerner or Epic
• Excellent customer service, multitasking, and quick-learning abilities required
• Copy of driver's license required at time of consideration to validate legal name matches government-issued ID
• Two supervisor/peer references required, one from within the last 12 months and one from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting within a Transfer Center-Clinical unit, functioning similarly to an ER role with zero hands-on patient care
• Facilitates patient transfers between hospitals within and outside the health system
• Manages an average of 12 cases per shift, with the ability to handle 10-15 cases at a time and pick up one case per hour
• Uses Cerner EMR, TeleTracking bed management system, Tiger Connect, and Google applications
• 12-hour shifts with a 1445 start time, scheduled any day of the week including every other weekend
• Must be available to work holidays as needed
• No floating required
• First to float if floating is needed
• Responsible for facilitating patient transfers, including conducting assessments, reviewing clinical information, and coordinating acceptance from receiving physicians and specialists
• Will request hospital beds through the bed placement system for incoming transfer patients
• LVN travelers, if applicable, are responsible for arranging referrals to outside facilities when a bed cannot be found within the system
• Supervisors and a leadership team are available for support
• Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation plus 3-5 days of department-specific training, which may occur on any shift
• Scrub color is flexible as long as attire is clean and professional; casual wear such as jeans without rips or tears and hoodies without large graphics is permitted
• RTO is very limited and can rarely be accommodated during this assignment
• Free onsite parking and EV charging are available
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year, though PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
