The role runs 3x12-hour nights (19:00–07:30) with 1:6 patient ratios on the Observation Unit and occasional floating to other Med/Surg floors. Qualifications include BLS; ACLS, CPI, NIHSS preferred; 1 year RN experience; travel experience preferred unless recent unit exposure.

Qualifications

  • Active Michigan RN license required.
  • BLS (AHA) certification required.
  • ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required.
  • Prior travel nursing experience required unless recent Observation/Admission/Short Stay Unit experience.
  • Community hospital experience preferred.
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line blood draws, and PICC line management preferred.
  • Skills in wound care/wound vac, tracheostomy care, and telemetry monitoring preferred.
  • Proof of flu vaccination required, with exemption requests submitted within 48 hours of signing.
  • Supervisor-level references required.

Responsibilities

  • Work in Med/Surg units, including a 10-bed ER Observation/Overflow unit and other general Med/Surg floors.
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30.
  • Patient ratios of 1:6 at night and 1:5 during days on the Observation Unit, flexing to 1:8 with LPN support on other Med/Surg units.
  • Care for a mix of medical and surgical patients alongside RNs, LPNs, and Techs.
  • Required to work every other weekend.
  • Floating to other Med/Surg units required, typically about once per week.
  • Epic charting system experience preferred.
  • Focus on continuous reassessment of patient readiness for discharge in the rapidly admitting/discharging Observation Unit.
  • Holiday coverage required with no holiday RTO approved until on assignment.
  • RTO limited to no more than 10 days.
  • Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments.
  • Locals accepted at the same rate with no radius restriction, though some specialties may have local rate adjustments.
  • Previous Bronson travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year.
  • Non-billable training modules completed during orientation and annually, self-reported.
  • First-time travelers not recommended unless they have recent relevant unit experience.
