American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an ICU RN for a 48-hour/week contract in Rapid City, SD. The 39-bed mixed ICU covers MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU with 1:1 to 1:3 patient ratios.

Candidates must have an active SD/Compact RN license, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC before arrival, and at least 2 years ICU experience. Epic EMR experience required. This traveler-friendly facility offers housing and per diem options.

• Epic EMR experience required; IV meds, hemodynamics, ventilation familiarization.
• Strong critical thinking and teamwork; able to work in a fast-paced ICU team.
• Travelers must have at least one prior travel assignment; first-time travelers not accepted.

Responsibilities

• Manage a 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU/SICU/CICU/TICU) in pods with variable patient ratios.
• Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases.
• Include post-CABG/TAVR patients 24–48 hours post-op; cardiac experience preferred.
• Work 12-hour night shifts; 48-hour/week contract; no on-call.
• Weekend rotation attempted; may float to Med/Surg/Tele at 1:4 when overstaffed.
• May precept nursing students; navy scrub color; onsite intensivists/APPs.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN requiring at least one prior travel assignment, strong critical care skills, and a 48-hour/week contract commitment.

Requirements

• Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must obtain prior to arrival if not already held)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
• Completion of an accredited nursing education program required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics required
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required
• Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment required
• Must be comfortable with a 48-hour/week contract commitment

Responsibilities

• 39-bed mixed ICU unit covering MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU patients, divided into pods
• Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 based on acuity
• Complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and heavy trauma cases
• Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR patients 24-48 hours post-op
• 12-hour night shifts on a 48-hour/week contract
• Weekend rotation attempted for every other weekend, though not guaranteed
• No on-call requirements
• Floating uncommon but may occur to adult floors including Medsurg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio if overstaffed
• Would not float to CVICU unless experienced in that specialty
• Epic EMR required; Alaris pumps in use, transitioning to Baxter pumps by October
• Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, resource nurses, 24/7 RT, and onsite intensivists/APPs
• Provide direct care to complex, critically ill ICU patients across multiple specialties
• May be expected to precept nursing students
• Navy scrub color required
• Free parking provided onsite
• No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
• Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved but must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week contract
• Travelers must have at least one prior travel assignment; first-time travelers not accepted
• Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers must live 100 miles away from any facility within the health system
• Facility is known for being traveler friendly with high renewal rates
