Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced ICU registered nurse for a Critical Care Float role in Indiana. The position requires mandatory floating across ICU, PCU, MS and ED, with a focus on high-acuity care.

Applicants must hold an IN license, have 3+ years ICU experience, and travel RN background. Certifications in ACLS, BLS, NIHSS are required. Cerner charting and invasive line management are common duties.

Qualifications

• Active IN or Compact RN license in hand before start.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Minimum 3 years ICU experience; 1.5+ years with strong ICU/PCU/MS may be considered.
• Previous travel RN experience required.
• Able to manage high patient ratios.
• Cerner charting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Float across ICU, PCU, MS, and ED as resource traveler.
• Cares for ICU patients with ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTI, shock.
• Ventilator support and Arctic Sun therapy as needed.
• Cath Lab support, TR bands, EEGs, cardioversion, stress tests.
• TCAR: patient ratios range from 1:2 to 1:4.
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30.
• 100% floating within hospital or affiliate.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring 3 years of experience and mandatory floating across ICU, PCU, MS, and ED.

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required and must be in hand prior to start
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required, though candidates with 1.5+ years and strong ICU/PCU/MS experience may be considered
• Previous travel RN experience required
• Must be able to manage higher patient ratios
• Skilled in ventilator management, arterial line care, central line and PICC line management, and IV therapy
• Experience with cardiac drip titration, vasoactive drip titration, and interpretation of dysrhythmias preferred
• Experience with Impella and IABP preferred
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• 2 supervisor references required
• Nursing degree must be from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Short-term acute care hospital setting in the ICU with required floating to PCU, MS, and ED as a resource traveler
• Patient population includes ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTI, and acute shock cases
• Cares for patients requiring ventilator support, Arctic Sun therapy, and occasional balloon pump management
• Performs Cath Lab support, TR bands, sheath pulls, EEGs, cardioversion, and stress tests
• Patient ratios range from 1:2 to 1:4
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
• Cerner charting system used
• 100% floating required for all travelers within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• Provides critical care nursing across ICU, PCU, MS, and ED based on departmental staffing needs
• Scrub color requirement: red top, black bottoms
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates (IN residents) are not accepted for this position
• Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a mandatory break before becoming eligible again: 90 days for out-of-state residents and 180 days for in-state residents
