Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN to join a critical access hospital in Maine. The role requires at least 1 year of ED experience and an active Maine or Compact RN license. Night shifts are 12 hours, with a 36-hour weekly schedule and weekend rotations.

  • Must reside 100+ miles south/southwest of facility.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 9-bed Emergency Department within a 25-bed critical access hospital.
  • Treat patients from newborn to elderly with ED presentations (cardiac, respiratory, ortho).
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P–7A) on a 36-hour per week schedule; rotate weekends.
  • CNA support during the day; no formal nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Remote telemetry and SpO2 monitoring at nurses' station; Cerner EMR.
  • Provide emergency care in a fast-paced ED setting; 2‑day orientation.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a critical access hospital, requiring at least 1 year of ED experience and a Maine or compact RN license.

Requirements
  • Active RN license (Maine or Compact) required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS required
  • TNCC and CPI/MOAB certifications preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of ED experience required; 2+ years preferred
  • Skilled in RSI, IV insertion, and cardiac monitoring and assessment
  • Must reside 100+ miles South/Southwest of the facility to be considered
  • Must not have prior permanent employment history with any Northern Light Health Hospital
Responsibilities
  • Work in a 9-bed Emergency Department within a 25-bed critical access hospital with no trauma designation
  • Treat patients ranging from newborn to elderly with typical ED presentations including cardiac, respiratory, and orthopedic cases
  • No formal nurse-to-patient ratios; typically 4 RNs during the day and 3 at night for the 9-bed unit
  • CNA support available during the day only
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A) on a 36-hour per week schedule
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating not typical but may occur to the Intermediate Care Unit with prior agreement
  • Charge nurse and respiratory therapy support available during the day until 1700, with after-hours options
  • Remote telemetry and SpO2 monitoring available at the nurses' station
  • Uses Cerner Community Works EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Stryker beds
  • Provide emergency care to patients across all age groups in a fast-paced ED setting
  • 2-day orientation provided
  • Holiday coverage required in line with the standard staff rotation schedule
  • RTO requests must be approved by the unit manager
  • No specific scrub color required
  • Free parking available on‑site
  • First‑time travelers may be considered depending on experience level
