Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Cath Lab RN for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital in Virginia. Requires VA/compact RN license, BLS/ACLS, and cath lab call experience. Travel nursing background and Epic charting are essential.

The unit has 6 procedure rooms, daily census 15–20, and complex procedures including TAVR and LAA closures. On-call and 4x10 day shifts schedule are standard; housing and licensure support offered.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license required (in hand or pending).
• BLS and ACLS certification required; CCI RCIS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years cath lab experience; 3+ years preferred.
• 1:1 patient ratio experience required; travel nursing experience required.
• Epic charting experience required.

Responsibilities

• Care for adult Cath Lab patients in a 6-room unit with 15-20 daily census.
• Perform advanced procedures (TAVR, LAA closures, thrombectomy, mitral clips).
• Operate cath lab equipment (IABP, Impella, Penumbra, Rotapro, CSI, IVUS, OCT).
• Maintain radiation safety, sterile technique and rapid response protocols.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Cath Lab RN for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a VA or compact RN license and prior cath lab call experience.

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license (in hand or pending, with emergency authorization available while permanent license processes)
• BLS and ACLS certification required; CCI RCIS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of cath lab experience required, 3+ years preferred
• 1:1 patient ratio experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Skilled in cardiac cath lab procedures including LHC, RHC, PCI, PTCA, stent placement, atherectomy, temp pacer, Impella, IABP, TAVR, Watchman, and Mitraclip
• Scrub experience required
• Proficient in sterile technique, EKG lead placement, dysrhythmia recognition/interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, and rapid response protocols
• Experience in diagnostic and interventional cath lab settings using fluoroscopy
• Knowledge of isolation precautions, equipment handling, and supply management
• Skilled in ACT monitoring, 12-lead EKG/ECG, radiation and laser safety, and sheath removal/monitoring
• Experience administering emergency medications, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, and IV vasopressors

Responsibilities

• Cardiac Cath Lab unit with 6 procedure rooms and a daily census of 15-20 adult patients
• Serves adult patients with coronary artery disease, valve disorders, heart failure, and ASD/PFO closures
• Performs advanced procedures including TAVR, LAA closures, Cardiomems, thrombectomy, mitral clips, and renal denervation
• Utilizes equipment including IABP, Impella, Penumbra, Rotapro, CSI, Shockwave, laser, OCT, and IVUS
• Epic charting required
• Day shift schedule of 4x10 hours, 7:30a-6p
• On-call requirement of 7 on-call shifts and 5 late shifts every 6-week period, including one full weekend (Fri-Sun) and one Saturday for elective cases
• Must be able to return to hospital within 30 minutes when called for on-call shifts
• Holiday coverage required for one holiday per 13-week contract in rotation with staff
• Work within a multidisciplinary team supporting adjacent cardiac surgery and hybrid ORs
• Facility is a nationally recognized, ACC-accredited cardiac cath lab performing thousands of advanced diagnostic and interventional procedures annually
• Acute care teaching hospital with over 700 licensed beds, Level I Trauma Center and Magnet designation, and certified stroke center
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
• All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with consideration
