Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. They evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans, explain the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provide necessary education upon discharge to home.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.
• Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography as per policy.
• Review patient's chest x-rays to evaluate the need for further action.
• Execute pulmonary function studies according to policy.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures including Bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, and Chest Tube placements.
• Provide tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Ensure proper laboratory testing procedures are followed, including handling specimens and reporting results.
• Deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set-up and maintain various types of mechanical ventilation equipment.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy records and effective communication with medical staff.

Schedule

This position encompasses a night shift, working three 12-hour shifts per week.

Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
