Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an outpatient physical therapist with at least 1 year of experience for a day-shift assignment serving inpatient, outpatient, LTC, and swing bed patients in Valdez, Alaska. Housing is provided; first-time travelers are not accepted.

Responsibilities include treating orthopedic, spinal, and neurologic conditions, working 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on a 5x8 or 4x10 schedule, utilizing an EMR, and coordinating with patients and families.

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required.
• Minimum 1 year of physical therapy experience.
• Experience in outpatient, acute care, and LTC/SNF settings required.
• Compact license must be in hand at time of submission, if applicable.
• EMR charting experience required.
• Skilled in assessment, body mechanics, home exercise programs, and patient/family education.

Responsibilities

• Department serves hospital inpatient, swing bed, long-term care (LTC), and outpatient populations.
• Day shift schedule, 5x8 or 4x10 hours, approximately 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Open to accommodating a block schedule.
• No on-call requirements.
• No floating required within the facility.
• Treats a wide range of conditions including orthopedic, spinal, and neurologic diagnoses such as post-op joint replacements, spinal cord injury, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and traumatic brain injury.
• Utilizes an EMR system.
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role.
• Must be willing to commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day).
• Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted.
• Former permanent staff must have a separation period of at least 3 months before returning as a traveler.
• Time off requests must be submitted upfront during the application process and are approved on an individual basis.
• Housing is provided by the facility, typically a 1-bedroom apartment suitable for a single traveler.
• Pets are not permitted in provided housing.
