Job summary

PathGroup in Texas seeks a Patient Service Floater to perform daily phlebotomy at PSCs or in-office PST locations under the area supervisor. Travel is required, and you will support client locations with coverage as needed while maintaining a courteous, professional demeanor with patients and staff.

Under established procedures you will collect specimens, explain venipuncture, label, transport, and process samples, enter data accurately, maintain records, and assist with statistics.

Responsibilities

• Travel to a client assignment within a designated region with short notice.
• Greets customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner.
• Ensures all field patient service and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
• Collects specimens according to established procedures. Explains venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and calmly.
• Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
• Completes requisitions accurately in Pathconnect and/or other Pathgroup computer applications.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer; communicates to confirm orders and obtain accurate billing information.
• Researches test/client information using lab computer systems.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
• Packages specimens for transport; stores samples at required temperatures; maintains specimen integrity.
• Maintains required records and documentation; daily PSC/IOPST logs; assists with monthly statistics.
• Performs basic clerical duties and electronic data entry; approves time in attendance software by deadline; submits expense and travel logs as directed.
• Demonstrates organizational commitment; adheres to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies.
• Uses time appropriately to manage fluctuating patient flow; maintains professional behavior with clients and coworkers.
• Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner; references PathGroup when assisting callers.
• Performs duties independently; communicates pertinent information to supervisor or group leader for resolution.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and team effort; keeps facilities neat and in good repair and reports needs.
• Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages to supervisor as they occur.
• Uses proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety; adheres to lab procedures and safety standards.
• Follows industry best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect patient information and company data; complies with Corporate Compliance Program.
