Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Pediatric Respiratory Therapist for a night-shift traveler role at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The assignment offers 8, 13, or 26 weeks with nightly shifts and weekend premiums where applicable.

External candidates only. Requires pediatric respiratory care experience, NBRC RRT credential, NC license, and BLS/PALS. NICU/PCICU/PICU experience is highly preferred and benefits are included.

Qualifications

• Completion of a two-year CoARC-approved respiratory care program.
• Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Current North Carolina respiratory care license and NBRC RRT credential.
• Current BLS and PALS certifications are required. NRP certification and any additional credentials must be current, as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care for pediatric patients per physician orders.
• Support night-shift staffing and collaborate with physicians, nurses and care team.
• Assess patients and deliver therapies per care plans and established protocols.
• Administer oxygen, aerosolized medications, airway clearance therapies and other treatments.
• Initiate and manage ventilation and monitor patient response to therapy.
• Document care and communicate relevant clinical information during handoffs and throughout the night shift.
• Educate patients and families and collaborate with the interdisciplinary pediatric care team.
• Follow infection-prevention, safety, compliance, equipment-care, and quality-improvement standards.
