Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an LPN for a long-term care unit in South Dakota. The role requires 1+ year of nursing experience and an active LPN license where applicable, with mandatory BLS.

You'll work 12-hour shifts in a 52-bed LTC/rehab facility, with a 1:25-30 nurse-to-patient ratio, potential unit float, and rotating weekends. Travel housing allowances and benefits are offered to support travelers.

Responsibilities

  • Long-term care/rehab and skilled nursing facility with 52 beds
  • Care for stable long-term residents, dementia patients, and hospice patients in collaboration with visiting hospice RNs
  • No memory care unit; no tracheostomy or ventilator patients; occasional feeding tubes, IVs, and catheter care
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:25-30 with two nurses per shift (RN/LPN or LPN/LPN)
  • Uses Point Click Care charting system; may reference EPIC Care Link for information
  • May float between two nursing units
  • 12-hour variable shifts; days or nights; shift-switching flexibility
  • Weekend rotation at least every other weekend; no on-call requirement
  • Medication administration, wound care, IV starts, tube feeding, ostomy care, and collaboration with hospice RNs
  • Support structure includes on-call charge nurse supervisors and hospitalist rounding twice weekly
  • Orientation includes two shifts on two units plus additional facility education
  • Expected to work 2 of 4 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of unapproved time off; extension if full week missed; no time off first three weeks of August
  • Scrub color: ceil blue top, black pants
  • Free parking on site
  • Travelers must live at least 100 miles away; local candidates not accepted

  • Scrub color requirements: ceil blue top with black pants for nurses
  • Free parking available on site
  • During snow conditions, staff may be required to stay at the facility, with pay provided for that time
  • First-time travelers considered if they have long-term care experience
  • Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers must live at least 100 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
