Job description

Leidos Travel Construction Engineer

Leidos is seeking a dynamic Travel Construction Engineer to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team.

In this role, you will support the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Eastern Service Area (ESA) by performing construction oversight for projects in support of Project Engineers, Contracting Officer’s Representatives, and Contracting Officers. You will report progress and issues against project goals, scope of work, and schedule.

The projects support Air Traffic Control facilities in the southeastern United States and the Caribbean. Candidates should reside in this area and be able to travel full-time.

This position requires 100% travel (including weekends), with each assignment typically lasting several weeks or months.

Location requirement: Must be located in the Eastern US, south of Maryland.

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure general contractor complies with FAA Environmental, Safety, and Health policies.
  2. Supervise construction on-site and ensure quality assurance for compliance with plans and specifications.
  3. Maintain accurate daily records of work, personnel, weather, and other details.
  4. Coordinate directly with the general contractor as the point of contact.
  5. Monitor progress against the construction schedule, review reports, and inform stakeholders.
  6. Discuss deviations in materials and procedures with the project engineer.
  7. Mark up drawings for as-built conditions and submit for review.
  8. Participate in inspections and contract close-out activities.
  9. Conduct progress meetings with contractors and personnel.
  10. Prepare sketches, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates for change proposals.
  11. Perform project management tasks including risk and safety plans, work sequencing, and cutover plans.
  12. Review work permits for hazards such as lead and asbestos.
  13. Review shop drawings and construction submittals, providing input to engineering staff.
  14. Track and coordinate closure of acceptance punch-lists.
Basic Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an accredited ABET program, with relevant experience, or a Master's degree with less experience.
  2. Experience with construction methods, plans, specifications, building materials, codes, and quality management.
  3. Effective coordination with stakeholders, peers, and management.
  4. Knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to work nights/weekends as needed.
  7. Physical ability to climb stairs, work in remote or challenging environments, and lift 25 pounds.
  8. Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance and U.S. Passport.
  9. Valid U.S. driver’s license and pass drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation.
  2. Experience with Primavera or Microsoft Project.
  3. Previous experience on government projects and construction supervision.
