Job summary

Strides Therapy & Educational Services in Juneau, AK, is seeking a Travel Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to deliver specialized PE services to students with disabilities, traveling between schools and collaborating with educators, therapists, and families. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Special Education, or related field.
  • Valid state teaching license with Physical Education and/or Adapted Physical Education certification/endorsement.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, IEP development and related requirements.
  • Experience with students with disabilities in educational settings.
  • Knowledge of motor development, adapted sports, and movement education.
  • Ability to assess gross motor skills, mobility, balance, coordination, and functional movement.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized APE programs and IEP goals.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, behavior-management, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work with families, teachers, therapists, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to complete background checks, fingerprinting, health screenings, and onboarding requirements.
  • Ability to travel between school locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct Adapted Physical Education services to students with disabilities per IEPs.
  • Assess gross motor development, physical fitness, mobility, coordination, balance, strength, endurance, and movement.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and document individualized PE goals and objectives.
  • Design and deliver adapted instruction promoting motor development and participation.
  • Modify activities, equipment, rules, and environments to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with general PE teachers to support inclusive participation.
  • Monitor progress, collect data, and prepare evaluations and reports.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and multidisciplinary evaluations.
  • Collaborate with therapists and other providers.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and environmental modifications.
  • Monitor medical precautions and health needs during instruction.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with policies (IDEA, FERPA).

Position: Travel Adaptive Physical Education Teacher

Additional Details

This is an in-person position. Provide individualized adaptive physical education services to students with disabilities by developing engaging activities that improve motor skills, physical fitness, and participation in school-based PE. Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to support students' IEP goals and create an inclusive, positive learning environment.

Compensation

up to $65; travel stipend can be discussed for candidates who are willing to relocate

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching license with the appropriate Physical Education and/or Adapted Physical Education certification or endorsement.

  • Develop, implement, monitor, and document individualized physical education goals and objectives.
  • Design and deliver adapted instruction that promotes motor development, physical fitness, recreation, independence, and participation.
  • Modify activities, equipment, rules, environments, and instructional strategies to meet students' individual needs.
  • Collaborate with general physical education teachers to support student participation in inclusive settings when appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and prepare evaluations, progress reports, and required special education documentation.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, multidisciplinary evaluations, annual reviews, and parent conferences.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other related service providers.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications that promote access, participation, and safety.
  • Monitor students' medical precautions, physical limitations, and health needs during instruction.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with district policies, IDEA, FERPA, and applicable federal and state requirements.
