Job summary

Juneau School District is seeking an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (Districtwide) to structure and adapt physical education programs for K-12 students, aligning with IEP goals. The role requires collaboration with educators and support staff to develop accommodations and individual PE programs based on student needs.

The educator will motivate students and maintain a safe, orderly learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education required.
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain Alaska teaching certificate with a special education or adaptive PE endorsement or related service provider certificate.
  • Knowledge of behavioral principles and strategies for students with adaptive physical education needs.
  • Must be flexible and able to work with colleagues in multiple settings.
  • Knowledge of IDEA requirements.

Full-Time Position (1.0 FTE)

SUMMARY

The successful individual will demonstrate the ability to contribute to a dynamic and innovative team working to effectively enhance the educational program within the school and district. This person will be able to structure and adapt physical education programs for students K-12 in a manner that supports IEP goals. Working collaboratively with educators and support staff this position will make adaptations, develop accommodations and modifications and/or develop individual physical education programs for students based on their needs. The educator will positively motivate students to develop appropriate skills and create a safe and orderly learning environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education required
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain prior to start an Alaska teaching certificate with a special education endorsement or adaptive PE endorsement or service provider certificate in physical therapy or occupational therapy or mobility and orientation
  • Knowledge and practical application of behavioral principles, practices, methods and strategies applicable to students with adapted physical education needs.
  • Must be flexible and able to work with colleagues in multiple settings
  • Knowledge of current research in field
  • Ability to maintain confidential and accurate reports, records and files for individual students
Preferred Requirements
  • Recent experience teaching adaptive physical education.
  • Understanding of IDEA requirements.
Compensation

Salary is dependent on experience and education. The Juneau School District offers a competitive salary, an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, and eligibility for membership in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) plan.
