Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Peoria, Illinois. This 13-week assignment offers a 36-hour work week with 12-hour night shifts in a Med/Surg unit of an acute care hospital. IL RN license and BLS certification are required, with EMR via EPIC and no ICU or chemotherapy duties.

The role includes competitive pay, travel and licensure reimbursements, per diem subsidies, and day-one benefits. Local candidates within 50 miles may have a local rate.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• Current BLS certification required
• Experience with titration of Heparin drips preferred
• Must be able to start IVs and utilize unit resources as needed

Responsibilities

• Work in the Acute Care G200 (Med/Surg) unit of a hospital
• Unit features 29 beds with a typical census of 22-26 patients
• Nurse to patient ratios are 4-5:1 for day shifts and 5-6:1 for night shifts
• Common patient conditions include GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly falls, DVT, and pulmonary embolism
• RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips only
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for nights)
• Holiday coverage is rotated among staff
• Travel RNs are first to float to other med/surg-like units but will not float to ICUs or care for chemo patients
• EMR system used is EPIC
• Unit provides 24-hour charge RN, crisis RN, and administrative supervisor coverage as resources
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs) provide 24-hour support with a PCT ratio of 1:10
• Patients may require up to 6L O2 via nasal cannula or stable use of BiPAP/CPAP
• Telemetry patients are monitored remotely and the unit uses Phillips telemetry equipment
• Two shifts of unit-specific orientation provided to all new staff
• Any color scrubs may be worn except pediatric patterns; staff provide their own
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required for assignment
• Local candidates are accepted, with a local rate applying for those within 50 miles
• No call or standby requirements
