Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Trauma Registry Specialist to identify cases, abstract data from medical records and prehospital data sources, and assign ICD-10 diagnoses and AIS scores. You will ensure accurate, timely reporting to the trauma registry and national databases while supporting performance improvement initiatives.

The role requires CAISS or CTSR certification within 6 months of hire, strong MS Office skills, and experience in trauma registry coding and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of trauma registry work or five (5) years of medical data abstraction/coding.
  • Proficient with Windows-based systems and MS Office applications (email, Word, Excel).
  • Expert with ICD-10 and Abbreviated Injury Scoring. Very strong data accuracy.
  • Experience in data analysis, reporting, and coordinating with PI initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Identify reportable injuries and abstract data from patient records for the trauma registry.
  • Code injuries using ICD-10 and AIS and enter data into the registry.
  • Maintain ≥95% accuracy and timely submission to state/national databases.
  • Support trauma performance improvement activities and generate ad hoc reports.
  • Orient new staff and serve as a resource on abstraction and coding.
