Job summary

Bon Secours is seeking a Trauma Registrar in Petersburg, VA to lead data abstraction for state and national trauma databases. You will identify eligible cases, gather data from EMRs, prehospital records, and autopsy reports, and apply ICD-10-CM and ICD-PCS coding per official guidelines.

Qualifications

• One year of registry data abstraction experience or related coding work is preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) is expected.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy/physiology terms is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Identify cases for inclusion into the trauma registry from multiple sources per national standards.
• Abstract data from medical records, EMS, autopsy reports, and other sources to support accuracy.
• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-PCS procedure codes per Official Coding Guidelines.
• Review charts daily and ensure timely data entry into the trauma registry.
• Report complications and quality issues to the Trauma PI Coordinator promptly and support performance improvement activities.
