Job summary

Bon Secours in Petersburg seeks a Trauma Registrar to collect and abstract data for state and national trauma databases, ensuring accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures. You will identify eligible cases from multiple sources and perform daily chart review and data entry into the registry.

The role requires ICD-10 coding coursework, familiarity with anatomy and medical terminology, and experience in registry data abstraction.

Qualifications

• Completion of ICD-10 coding courses.
• Completion of college-level Anatomy/Physiology courses.
• Completion of college-level Medical Terminology courses.
• Associate's Degree including medical terminology and Anatomy/Physiology is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect and abstract data for state and national trauma databases.
• Identify cases for registry inclusion from sources like Master Patient Index, ED log, and Trauma Log.
• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-PCS procedure codes per Official Coding Guidelines.
• Assign AIS codes for severity of illness and probability of survival.
• Daily chart review and data entry into the Trauma Registry.
• Report complications and quality issues to Trauma PI Coordinator.
• Ensure adherence to data management protocols and timely reporting.
• Assist with performance improvement activities.

Education

Completion of ICD-10 coding courses

Completion of college-level Anatomy/Physiology courses

Completion of college-level Medical Terminology courses

Associate's Degree (preferred) including medical terminology & Anatomy/Physiology
