Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains seeks a Behavior Support Specialist to help youth ages 5–18 thrive by supporting behavioral, social, and emotional growth. The role blends direct member support, family engagement, and staff coaching in a safe, inclusive Club environment.

Using trauma-informed practices and individualized Success Plans, you will equip youth with coping skills, strengthen partnerships with families and schools, and guide staff in managing challenging situations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or related field is required.
• Minimum of 2 years in behavioral health or youth work in group settings.
• Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development and trauma-informed practices.
• Ability to engage families, mentor youth, and facilitate groups.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Calm, flexible, and professional under high-energy conditions.
• Familiarity with local community resources for youth and families.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Responsibilities

• Provide redirection and de-escalation during behavioral incidents to keep members safe.
• Build supportive relationships with youth and families that foster resilience and growth.
• Collaborate with staff, families, and schools on individualized plans and documentation.
• Track progress, update plans, and communicate outcomes to families and staff.
• Deliver staff training on trauma-informed approaches and behavior management.
• Lead mentoring, small groups, and family meetings to strengthen coping skills.
• Connect families to community resources to remove barriers to success.
• Represent the Club in coalitions and initiatives supporting youth wellness.
