Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains is seeking a Behavior Support Specialist in Yankton, SD, to support members ages 5–18 with behavioral, social, and emotional growth.

Using trauma-informed practices and individualized Success Plans, you will provide on-the-floor support, coach staff, engage families, and collaborate with schools to foster safe, inclusive clubs where youth can learn coping and self-regulation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health and/or working with youth in group settings.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and youth behavior management.
• Skilled in family engagement, mentoring, and group facilitation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to remain calm in high-energy, stressful situations.
• Familiarity with community resources for youth and families.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Responsibilities

• Provide redirection and de-escalation during incidents to keep a safe environment.
• Build supportive relationships with youth and families to encourage growth.
• Partner with staff, families, and schools to create and monitor plans.
• Track progress and communicate outcomes to families and staff.
• Deliver staff training on trauma-informed approaches and de-escalation.
• Document behavioral incidents and follow-up actions.
• Collaborate with community resources to expand support.
