Job summary

The Behavior Support Specialist at Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains in Vermillion, SD, supports members ages 5–18 by fostering their behavioral, social, and emotional growth through trauma-informed practices and individualized Success Plans.

The role combines direct member support, family engagement, and staff coaching to create a safe, inclusive Club environment, with a focus on coping and self-regulation skills and collaboration with schools and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health and/or working with youth in group settings.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and behavior management.
• Experience in family engagement, mentoring, and group facilitation.
• Strong verbal and written communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide immediate redirection and de-escalation during behavioral incidents to ensure a safe environment for all members.
• Build supportive, consistent relationships with youth and families that encourage resilience, growth, and positive decision-making.
• Partner with staff, families, and schools to create, implement, and monitor individualized Success and Medical Plans.
• Track progress, update plans, and communicate outcomes and adjustments to families and staff.
• Deliver staff training on proactive behavior management and trauma-informed approaches.
• Maintain accurate documentation of behavioral incidents and follow-up actions.
