Job summary

YWCA Northeast Kansas in Topeka is seeking a part-time Violence Interrupter to report to the Program Manager and engage individuals at highest risk of violence. The role uses trauma-informed outreach and coordinates with community partners to improve safety for participants and their families.

You will conduct street outreach, refer to services, set goals, monitor progress, and help participants engage in positive activities.

Qualifications

• Lived or professional experience with high-risk individuals or community violence interruption.
• Experience in street outreach or youth development is preferred.
• Commitment to trauma-informed practice and safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Engage participants using a trauma-informed approach to support safety.
• Identify escalating conflicts and mediate conversations to prevent violence.
• Reduce retaliation risk and coordinate referrals to services.
• Set goals with participants and monitor progress per service plans.
• Document service delivery and mediations as required.
• Collaborate with community partners and attend related meetings.
