Job summary

VOA Illinois is seeking a compassionate, client-centered Therapist to provide behavioral health support and programming for community members. This role uses a trauma-informed approach to help clients build trust and emotional well-being through in-person and virtual services.

The position requires a Master's degree in social work, counseling, or psychology, at least 1 year of post-graduate clinical experience (or 4 years combined pre/post-grad), and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in social work, counseling, or psychology or related field.
• Minimum of 1 year post-graduate clinical experience, or 4 years combined pre/post-graduate experience.
• Strong communication, collaboration, group facilitation, and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and create inclusive environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• LPC or LSW preferred; license-eligible candidates will be considered.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed behavioral health support to clients in a safe, supportive environment.
• Build trusting relationships that encourage engagement and emotional growth.
• Assess client needs, monitor progress, and share updates with supervisors.
• Use active listening, therapeutic communication, and de-escalation strategies when supporting clients.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic record systems.
